The third solo exhibition by Carly Lynch functions as a record of her engagement with the heavily contested hillside of Smiths Beach (Lot 413), in the state’s south-west. With a focus on drawing, photography and installation elements, Lynch gathers a series of works motivated by her anxiety towards the potential further development of the hillside, which her Father fought so hard to oppose during her childhood. In part, the works in this show are a reflection on instilled values and an excavation of formative memories. Lynch leverages her distance from the site in question, to create space for criticality and to confront notions of entitlement and power, through methods of juxtaposition and layering.
